African Pirates Invade the Modern Age

With piracy being a fast growing issue, what solution can the world use to approach it? A promising solution is to arm all oil carriers passing through these dangerous waters, making it much more difficult for pirates to board. Well trained teams could be deployed to administer these weapons, but this can’t be the only action taken. Another prominent solution is urging the Nigerian government into solving its current oil crisis. They can do so by constructing more oil refineries, therefore allowing Nigeria to have its own sustainable refined oil supply. So, with a fast growing issue like piracy originating from Medieval times threatening to severely damage today’s key trade routes, measures like these must be taken to halt it as soon as possible. What better solutions are possibly out there?
