I would use PNGs for the web and not for my 3D renderes because it is light and has the best image quality for the WEB
For 3D renderers I would choose between TGA or TIFF. Both of them are lossless compression, I usually work with TGA because they are smaller in sizes than TIFFs.
Compression for Video Output :
Video takes up a lot of space. Uncompressed footage from a camcorder can take up about 17MB per second of video. Because it takes up so much space, video must be compressed before it is put on the web. Compressed just means that the information is packed into a smaller space. There are two kinds of compression: lossy and lossless.
Lossy compression means that the compressed file has less data in it than the original file.
In some cases this translates to lower quality files, because information has been lost. However, we can lose a relatively large amount of data before we start to notice a difference. Lossy compression makes up for the loss in quality by producing comparatively small files.
Lossless compression is exactly what it sounds like, compression where none of the information is lost. using lossless compression will result in a perfect-quality picture. For example, a video editor transferring files from one computer to another using a hard drive might choose to use lossless compression to preserve quality while he or she is working ..
What is video streaming?
Video streaming is the act of transmitting compressed (typically) video across a private or public network (like the Internet, a LAN, satellite, or cable television) to be uncompressed and played on a computing device (such as a TV, smart phone or computer).
The videos must be compressed in size to save transmission bandwidth and storage space. Compression reduces original video information and removes redundancies. Uncompressed video requires a tremendous amount of bandwidth to transmit across a network or space to store..
