In the film Born Rich we looked at an heir of the Johnson & Johnson family among others. It was very interesting during a part of the film an heir of a family that made its money off of railroads stated “everybody back then was corrupt”. A lot of families that are wealthy today have very storied backgrounds from gaining off the backs of slavery, back stabbing business partners etc. So yes it was correct to say these wealthy families come from unmoral backgrounds. But are they still unmoral? The ones who did the dirty work are no longer here. The 3rd and 4th generations are here. In the film I noticed how some didn’t even tell their kids how rich they were. One found out in class from an article how rich his family was. This was done in an attempt to not make similar mistakes as before. Not raising them with greed. Installing in them the value of education. In most cases they were told you have to do something or be cut off. In the film one of the heirs stated even though he gets millions every year he still has a job that pays him $50k a year. He was raised that you work. This was in contrast to a few others in the film such as the gentleman who stated he enrolled in school while doing nothing and not getting kicked out. So not all rich are unmoral. What I received from the film is that while a lot of wealthy families started out unmoral they are making a move to move away from that and gain better values.
