Even though prison has many negative effects and outcomes such as becoming institutionalized and defensive, there are some ways to get something positive from it if the inmate tries their hardest and use all the tools they can while serving the time. Prison can leave ex-offenders with many negative effects and defects once they are released that have the power to break them once they reenter society. However, there are ways that they can escape the negativity and make their outcome positive. It all depends on what they do and what is offered to them on the inside that will either make or break them when they integrate into society. People who have not had a prison experience first-hand do not understand what it is like to live through this environment, let alone trying to escape its effects once you are released. Therefore, instead of judging those who have done time, people should do more to try to understand them and what they have been through. This way, they will be in a better position to help them be better individuals in the society that they all must share regardless.
