Collectivism: societies in which people from birth onwards are integrated into strong, cohesive in-groups, often extended families (with uncles, aunts and grandparents) which continue protecting them in exchange for unquestioning loyalty (FLGconsulting, 2011). Mexico is a collectivism country, as such they tend to have a great group formation and social harmony between them (Geert, n.d.). This also means loyalty is the basis of this culture society. If loyalty is many ways destroyed, the social harmony could be corrupted which can cause a total unbalance in the cultural environment. Mexico is a country who prefer working in groups, this way it is much easier for them to work in harmony and for them to maintain a healthy communication towards their peers.

As communication goes, Mexico is known for one specific author whose masterpieces are overwhelming. His name is Octavio Paz. Mexican poet, writer, and diplomat, recognized as one of the major Latin American writers of the 20th century. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1990. (See Nobel Lecture: “In Search of the Present.”) (Mexican literature, n.d.). This was a Nobel who put Mexican literature on the map. Maybe this country is not well known for this, but it is a clear example of how Mexican literature has been around for a long time yet to be discovered.

Mexico is a country who is generally judged harshly, but if we manage to investigate about it we will discover many things in society and communication that are like other countries out there. It is hard to imagine that even though people are so different from each other, they came from a culture that share similar principles of government, communication skills, priorities, and society standards. This investigation informed us about the culture itself and how we can use this in our advantage to maintain a relationship with other peers around the world.
