Section 4
Various geographical features may cause deforestation although their extent of deforestation is not vast as that caused by humans. One of the features is rivers; river floods are known to uproot many trees. When rivers flood, they flow across the land eroding the soil. As the soil erosion takes place the river forms banks or cliffs, the river washes away the layer of the soil that is responsible for holding the trees on the ground. When the river floods erode the soils, it affects the firmness of the trees on the ground hence the trees falls on the ground. In some instances, river folds also cause landslides on the river sides or banks, as the land get carried away by the river, it carries with it the trees in it. The river floods and landslides mainly uproot the trees located on or near the river banks (Meeson et al, 122-128.).
