Sure, there are many greater problems in the world other than our writing skills being depleted, but at the same time it is something that cannot be ignored. I have heard plenty of people say well “yeah I have accidently typed a sentence as if I were texting, but I caught myself before submitting it”. Well for those people who catch themselves before submitting, that’s good, they’re very fortunate, but not everyone gets to just catch themselves before submitting. Think of someone growing up now in their elementary days, think about the fact that they are surrounded by social medias and smart devices. Think of us right now who barely rarely write anything anymore, I know I am not the only one who only really needs pencils when it comes to just math problems, and scan-trons. So, let us focus back on that little elementary student really quick, what if he’s submitting a standardized test to be eligible for the next grade up, and they just happen to slip up and they don’t get the chance to “catch” themselves before submitting.

I personally feel that this is something that should always be kept in mind; not something to be thought about right now, but something to think about in the future, and then in the future’s future. All it takes is a little less time texting, tweeting, and a little bit more time reading and writing. It’s important to bring attention to this issue now while others can hear us, then to wait until they cannot hear us.
