Sleep I only wish I could I have! My husband and I go to bed around 12 or 12:30 every night a good night would be 10. We make it appoint that we only do homework when our daughter does her or when the kids go to bed so all our extra time is being spent with them when we are a home. They once diagnosed me with insomnia and have me sleeping medications, I was on them for a year but I asked to be taking off of them because I felt like my body started to rely on them and I didn’t like the way it made me feel. Now I just drink me some warm peppermint tea or some herbal tea before I go to bed and I am good to go. My problem isn’t going to sleep or staying asleep it’s just getting to the bed rather than staying up and trying to get everything done before I go to bed. Nutrition and food for life I think can play a role in your sleep.

I think when you are healthy and eating right it will help you sleep better. For me if I eat late in the even I have a harder time sleeping so I don’t eat pass 6:30 at night, and if I get really hungry I will have a protein shake before bed. That the same with people who are drinking caffeine before bed, you tend to have a harder time going to sleep. Some of thing that made me change my lifestyle was having children, watching a movie called Food Inc. And taking a nutrition class. I do believe we are what we eat, and if you want to be healthy and live longer then you need to be aware what you are putting into your body. It’s not like back in the day when you planted your own fruits and vegetables and got your own milk from your cow or meat from what you raised. Instead you have animals being injected full of hormones to produce more milk, grow faster to keep up with our demands. You have children wanting ice cream and chips instead of fruits for snacks. It blows my mind to watch some of the things they come out with now days like bacon ice cream and bacon this who on earth think of these nasty and very unhealthy things to eat. This is one of those topics where I can go on a rant about. I think everyone should taking a nutrition class, learn to really read labels and know what you are looking for and really know what you are putting in your body. A long with eating healthy we should all to live by the fitness component.

According to fitness.gov “less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day, only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week.” I do believe you are starting to see more people workout, I have watched Cross fit blow up over the last pass 3-4 years. Although I believe there is a huge improvement I still believe obese and being overweight is a huge issue here in America. I have watched family members suffer from their bad choices in food, and not working out and I don’t ever want to be down that path. Once advantage I think I have is I am in the military so I take a fitness test every year depends on how you score. If you score less than a 90 you have to take it every 6 months, if you score a 90 or above you test once a year, that is what I shoot for. Our PT test consists of waist measurement which can’t be higher than a 35, pushups in a minute at least 18, a 1 ½ mile run and sit ups in a minute and at least 35. So for me working out isn’t an option it’s something that has been imbedding into my head now you do have those people who get kicked out because they can’t pass their test and those are the ones that don’t want to make any effort. Working out can help relieve stress from some people, get rid of the toxins in your body it should be a must to everyone. People should just worry about being healthy and not what Hollywood think women and men should look like, it’s sad to see all these young women and men that are abusing steroids and have eating disorders because of people like Kim Kardashian who is very self-absorbed and all about her image even though she tries to act like she isn’t. Sure she successful with no college education but that is because America has made her that way. I don’t support any reality TV shows, children need to understand they are beautiful the way they are. Another thing I think kids struggle with is alcohol and making the right choices with drugs and other things that could hurt them.

There are so many new drugs that are and who knows what’s all in them, but people still take them not knowing what they are taking and what could be the side effect or worse if they could die. This is something I worry a lot about when it comes to my children and them making the right choices when it comes to sex and STI’s. According to ashasexualhealth.org “The total estimated direct cost of STIs annually in the U.S. is $15.6 billion (2010 US dollars).” That is a lot of money that we are spending a year to treat STI’s, I think that when alcohol and drugs play a big role in a person making the right choices while under the influence and chosen to wear protection or for women making men wear protection. I never did drugs growing up but I knew people who did and watch them suffer from addiction and it’s sad. The only thing I did was drank and party a lot, I am thankful that I never made bad choices when I was under the influence. Besides the number of kids being overweight I think this is one the component that we need to work on.

Everyone is somehow affected by the seven components of wellness somehow. Taking this course has reminded me on why I want to stay healthy and active and it also made me see where I need to work on such as stressing over things I don’t need to and trying to figure out a better system so I can get more sleep. I think it’s important that we always remember these components so we don’t become complacent in our lives
