Keeping your mind mentally fit isn’t as difficult as getting ready for a marathon, but it’s a good analogy. For me, a few changes that I've incorporated into my life was that I stopped trying to multitask. First of all, there is no such thing as multitasking (despite what people think). What I learned was that I was being counterproductive. The brain can only concentrate on one task at a time, so, when you think that you are multitasking, you're actually creating more problems than solving them. Besides, when you focus on one task at a time, it will improve your concentration and help you to be more productive. Another simple thing that I incorporated was that I read more. We've all heard that reading is great for the brain but why? Reading is a very complex task that requires several different regions of the brain to work together (Dye, 2014). Reading is a great activity because it can stoke the imagination and ignite so many different parts of the brain. There are endless genres and types of reading material. It’s unlikely that you’ll run out of interesting things to read.

Establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is what you make of it. At first, the task can be very daunting because it's very easy to develop an unhealthy habit but difficult to live with; whereas, developing a healthy is hard to establish, yet easy to live with. The older we get, the harder it is to find the time to care for ourselves because of busy schedules and lifestyles. However, taking care of yourself mentally and physically is the best way of ensuring that one can live a long healthy life.
