5). The fifth problem in Captain Everette’s in-Basket is a request from Lt. William Hayes to purchase the necessary ammunition for the firearms training and certification. The department needs 220,000 rounds of 9mm bullets, 50,000 rounds of .00 buck, 50,000 rounds of rifled slugs, and 100,000 rounds of .223 bullets.

6). The sixth problem in Captain Everette’s in-basket is from Chief Iam Wright about the liability concern surrounding P.O. Frank Arnold and his last performance evaluation. It was brought to his attention by Lt. Demsey that P.O. Arnolds peers ay he can no longer do his patrol duties do to his age.

SOLUTIONS

1). The solution to the first problem in Captain Everette’s in-basket would simpily be to get another opinion by a boat repair shop on whether the outboard motor is really beyond repair. If that were the case then you would have to buy the new motor.

2). The solution to the second problem in Captain Everette’s in-basket is the estimate from Dave’s marine for the new motor for patrol boat #3. It is an estimate for a 125 horsepower outboard motor, which is a bigger more powerful motor than what was on the boat originally. The solution would be to either find what they are asking for cheaper or buy the smaller motor like the boat originally had.

3). The solution to the third problem would be to look into why he had so much overtime in the month of August while the rest of the detective department had half the hours he did. Detective Hunt clocked 285 hours and the rest of the department only had 156 hours. There are a couple of reasons why he could have worked so much overtime such as he was working a case or he was just making up work to get extra money.

4). The solution to the fourth problem is to simply see if you have the extra funding and an extra vehicle at the time to send the two detectives to the training seminar.

5). The solution to the fifth problem is to order the ammunition needed for the firearms training and certification department. You would have to order the ammunition needed because this is something the department could not go without.

6). The solution to the concern over P.O. Arnold would be to put him through the field test and grade his current abilities to his past and see if he is in fact unfit to perform his patrol duties. If he were unfit then he would either have to be placed on light duty or desk duty.

Best Solution

The best solution to problem three in Captain Everette’s in-basket would be to ask detective to put the tasks he was completing for the time he was working. Such as for the overtime worked on August, 12th, 1992 I was processing important evidence in the murder case involving Jane Doe. Then after this process is complete if you go over all the info and what he said he was doing and the overtime hours don’t match up you know he was forging fake overtime hours. You can also ask around to see if people saw him around the department working or if he simply punched in and left then came back to punch out. The explanation to his excess overtime hours will have to be documented and the final explanation will have to be given at the next upcoming staff meeting at 0800 hours on October 18, 1992. You would have decide if it was a good hours or if they where forged hours.
