Priorities

When it comes to major obstacles in my personal, professional or academic life, I would make school my priority, however, no major obstacle has yet been presented. The word “major” might be a relative term to other students in the class but for me when I think of major, I think of something that would cause me to teeter on the balance of success or failure. My personal life has a schedule that allows me to be done with school by Thursday on average. My professional life has a lot of down time during the day that gives me all the time I need to help complete my school work. Lastly, the academic part of my life was a little challenging when learning the online classroom but after a couple of days it became a lot easier with numerous hours of clicking everything multiple times.

When I have to decide which priority comes first, it would have to be finishing college with a degree in education. This is my future here in our small town and the degree will eventually be what will support my family. On top of that, I put such a demand of high honor roll with my kids that I need to set an example for them too by making high honor roll a priority. My current job would be the next priority as it is how we are surviving until I secure a position at the school. Unfortunately my personal life would have to come last. I am trying to lose weight, follow my three kids, cook meals and do laundry on top of whatever my disabled wife needs help with.. It seems that these priorities are fairly firm but as life moves on things may change.

The best strategy for me to prioritize school is utilizing proper time management. By allotting a block of time at night and certain blocks of time throughout the day it allows me to complete my work stress free. I also like to shorten the deadlines for my assignments which help me complete the weeks work early. This is advantageous in case something comes up, I will be prepared. For the long term vision of obtaining my degree, I believe working ahead and giving my work proper review will create a safe buffer before final submission. The prior strategies are my most important, yet I also block out time for personal betterment by watching videos on Understanding Word, reading the Bible or whatever little items I feel need a tune-up.

In summary, I believe the overall objectives from the topic of prioritizing the areas of my personal, professional and academic life was to gain some clarity through writing in our weekly journal. When writing, it sometimes helps in various degrees to bring out feelings, ideas and self-reflection about me or the topics being covered. With this week’s lesson, prioritizing was one of the topics being discussed. It helped finding the things most important in my life and what areas are more important than the other. With me, prioritizing naturally ties in time management and compounding the S.M.A.R.T.
