Synopsis

On 30th November, 1972 ALIMCO was established. It is a public sector undertaking. It is a NPO (Non-profit making organization) and falls under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE). The production was started in the year 1976. The corporation deals in the production of 355 types of appliances required by visually, hearing and orthopedically handicapped. The headquarters of the corporation is in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and achieved a net worth of 189.60 crores last year. The organization has also planned to spread globally by the end of 2017 , coming together with German Prosthetics.

It not only deals with the artificial limbs, but also with various other technologies which include mobile phones for visually disabled persons.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIZATION

The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) of the Government of India. Established on November 30, 1972, ALIMCO manufactures artificial limbs and rehabilitation aids. The company is headquartered in Kanpur.

Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) is a non-profit making organization, working under the aegis of Govt. of India, under the ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. It was incorporated in 1972 to take up manufacture and supply of artificial limb components and rehabilitation aids for the benefit of the physically handicapped and started production in 1976.

1. Expansion of existing manufacturing base through setting up of additional production center.

CHAPTER 3

OBJECTIVES

- To maintain the status of largest manufacturer and supplier of rehabilitation aids in India.

- To maintain the status of largest ADIP implementing agency through camp activity, headquarters activity, ADIP – SSA activity, special camp activity and limb fitting centres activity.

- To ensure all aids & appliances supplied under ADIP scheme must bear ISI – mark and must be durable, modern, sophisticated and scientifically manufactured.

- To enhance export of quality rehabilitation aids to help disabled persons abroad to achieve self-dependence.

- To carry out continuous research & development work to improve design of existing aids and develop new assistive aids at affordable prices.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR): The corporation has taken initiative and has started approaching all profit making CPSUs to take up their CSR obligation through ALIMCO for Assessment and Distribution of Aids and Assistive devices to PwD’s.
