Question 3: Corporate responsibility is a process in a company, which aims to protect and to create beneficial impacts to environment communities and all its stakeholders. It can be broken down into four categories. These categories include: economic responsibility, legal responsibility, ethical responsibility and philanthropic responsibility. (Bateman) In order to be economically responsible, a company aims to produce their product or service that can maximize its shareholder value as well as make a profit for the business. In MA Earth’s case, they just reduced their cost of production by using ingredients form mainstream supplier rather than the orellana they promised. In order to be legally responsible, one must follow the laws of local, state, government, federal or international laws. If MA Earth is advertising that orellana is purchased from the Amazon tribe and then put into their products and it is not, that is legally irresponsible. The ethical issue at hand here has been made pretty clear. In order to be ethical one must follow the duty to follow the morally right path. (Meesiripeyratorn) It is unethical for this company to let their customers be under the impression that they are using 100% all natural products when they are not. And last but not least the company must be held responsible to be philanthropic. Although they are being philanthropic towards this town by sending them money, they are also just using them as an image to make their company look better. So although the company in a way was economically responsible and philanthropically responsible they definitely were not ethically or legally responsible. (Meesiripeyratorn) Overall, I would say the company’s corporate responsibility is neither effective nor ethical.
