They might not be primarily selling the beef itself but can be selling other products that have costed the rise in the livestock industry. It is all based on ‘Supply and Demand’ and how much people are buying beef and how much the farmers are producing. The definition of supply and demand is the amount of a commodity, product, or service available and the desire of buyers for it, considered as factors regulating its price. If the demand for beef products are down, then the cattle farmers would not have to produce as much beef and they would not be in a shortage. A lot of food processors that used to be in the United States have moved to Mexico so that they can take advantage of lower wages for the production. The increase in beef prices has also affected companies like Chipotle and other companies that base their menu items off of beef products. This affects Chipotle because they said that they had to raise their prices 5 percent to compensate for the increase in prices. This was the first time in three years that Chipotle had to raise its prices due to not just the beef prices, but also the raised avocado and cheese prices. Chipotle also said that it would be their highest prices ever since they first started back in 1993. The United States Department of Agriculture recently released a statement saying that beef prices have hit an all time high of $5.28 per pound, and are expected to rise higher as the beef supply is constantly tight.
