alloys. These electrodes are selected to match the base material being welded. The current forms an arc that jumps a gap from the end of the electrode to the work. The electric arc creates enough heat to melt both the electrode and the base material(s). Molten metal from the electrode travels across the arc to the molten pool of base metal where they mix together. As the arc moves away, the mixture of molten metals solidifies and becomes one piece.

Safety

Safety is the number one goal in welding. Welders must wear suitable protective equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must protect against hazards such as burns, sparks, spatter, electric shock, and radiation. The proper PPE includes flame-resistant clothing such as a tightly woven shirt, denim pants, jacket and heat resistant gloves. Also safety boots specially designed for welding. Protective helmets and/or face shields are also important. As a safety precaution rid the area where the welding is occurring get rid of all clutter which could present a fire hazard.

Conclusion

In conclusion, welding is not easy and I learned a lot of valuable information during my classes at Metro. Before I graduate from Metro I will have gained more insight on welding and hands on experience and take the knowledge I have gained with me into the workforce.
