Not implementing standardized tests gets rid of the competition aspect of tests. The individual’s tests for each student only measures their ability to learn information the best way they know how. The personal student-teacher relationship this creates can help to strengthen the student’s learning ability. They are only being compared to themselves; therefore, if they see that they are outdoing their previous achievements, they become more confident in themselves and this can lead to being intrinsically motivated about their schoolwork. The downside to this is that if a student continues to fail their tests, it is not known whether the teacher is ineffective or if the student has a learning difficulty with certain material.

All in all, there are both positives and negatives to both educational models. It depends on the individual and how they learn best. These models have proven to be effective in their own way. The formal model has been around for quite some time and will most likely continue on. While the non-formal model is often kicked to the side, it is making a strong case for itself in other countries of Europe as a great way to teach students. Possibly in the near future there could be a joining of the two to create an educational model that implements the best of both worlds and surpasses the way individuals learn to yield the maximum effectiveness of relaying information.
