effect of introducing such a regulation would be the embracing of rote learning. Students would struggle to cram all the information in books and other material without the slightest intention of understanding or learning anything new. Instead, they would solely be focused on learning enough information to pass the examinations. No cognitive ability or skills would have been improved if students study in this manner. Such a system would produce individuals with a wealth of information on different aspects but lacking the ability to interpret and come up with logical conclusions on their own. The purpose of studying would be reduced to amassing enough relevant information to enable a student pass his or her exams rather than for purposes of learning. Strategies should be introduced that encourage students to learn through discovery.

Another point includes that just because a student fails, it does not mean that the student’s teacher did not successfully teach. The teacher could have many other students who do well in the class, and the failing student may have just refused to do the work. He believes that it is the fault of teachers, who never should have been certified in the first place. “We have low – quality teaching because of low – quality teachers who never should have been certified in the first place” (Singleton 192). The solution to the problems of American education does not include giving out more F’s to students.

“What Our Education System Needs is More F’s” written by Carl Singleton describes how American education could benefit from failing more students. The article explains that if teachers give out more F’s, student’s motivation would increase to learn the material and schools would raise their education standards. Singleton believes that if teachers fail the undeserving students, the students’ parents would become more concerned and involved in their education. Carl Singleton’s article, “What Our Education System Needs Is More F’s”, provides good arguments about why more F’s should be given to students. However, simply giving F’s isn’t going to fix all the problems lurking in our education system. Due to the fact that more students would give up trying or drop out causing illiteracy rates to soar to newer highs.
