Physical Barriers – This barrier is the easiest to spot, such as closed doors or walls. Most places that specialize in ‘’communication’’ often have open work places to promote the use of effective communication.

Perceptual Barriers – This barrier is more of an internal barrier. This revolves around the individual attempting to make an effort in communicating with others, and if they feel they won’t be able to make their point, they will ultimately ‘’sabotage’’ their effort in communicating.

Emotional Barrier – Perhaps one of the toughest barriers to overcome, Emotional Barriers revolve around the person having confidence in what he/she is trying to communicate with others. The person must speak with full confidence without being overcome with their emotions.

Cultural Barriers – Whether it be from a professional stand point where to companies have different cultures, or from a wide scale stand point where multiple people all reside in one culture, this one can be detrimental because two or more different cultures can end up clashing. To overcome this, the different cultures must find a single point or common ground to where they can all speak freely without their individual culture ‘’points’’ getting in the way.

Language Barriers – This barrier may not seem inherent, but when speaking with people from different areas, its’ wise to make sure that what you communicate with is simple, and something the other person/people can understand. Using words full of jargon or are technical isn’t the way to go, as they may not understand the words you use. You must explain it like the person is a child, or that they are just learning the new material.
