I was super excited to visit my parents hometown for the first time. Since I had to think of my cultural identity Items, I thought back to the time where I met my grandpa, uncles and aunts for the first time. I finally got to put stories of them to an actual face.Everyday when we were back in Vietnam it was constant parties every single night just like it is how in America. When I printed the communist flag on the poster, It reminded me of the time when my dad and I were standing outside of my uncles house and we huge pick up truck come by. They started picking random people on the streets into the truck and I was confused why the men in uniform were doing that. My dad said those are the communist people looking for trouble. After I witness that, It changed the way I viewed Vietnam. Vietnam is divided and the communist are trying to take over and ruin Vietnam.

4. I honestly had a hard time brainstorming of the things to put on the poster. Since I’m not connect to my roots as I should be, I had to ask my parents for help. My dad told me to find pictures of the traditional vietnamese weddings and how the women must wear a (Ao Dai) a long silk dress worn over pants. Printing the pictures made me reminisce to my cousins wedding back in March and how family from all around the world came to Santa Clara to celebrate the wedding.

5. I would describe myself as a Vietnamese American. I don’t consider myself to be fully Vietnamese just because of the way I was raised but that doesn’t take away from the fact that I am.

6. Disadvantages of being Vietnamese is that I’ve always heard that Asian people are not independent and strong. Asians are the ones who sit back and let others take control and thats something that I hate. Privileges can be small things like being bilingual, having parents invested in your education, celebrating New years twice, we don’t age as much and etc.
