When a young teenager decides the only option is to get an abortion, she cannot see past the present and has absolutely no ideas what it will do to her. Part of being a woman is being able to carry and give birth to a child. By taking yourself out of the process, women are going against what their bodies were made to do. Penelope Trunk, a former professional volleyball player, had not one but two abortions and has had to deal with the consequences everyday of her life. “So I did it. I went to sleep with a baby and woke up without one. Groggy. Unsure about everything,” she recalls. After actually having children later in her life, she acknowledges that kids have been such a reward (Trunk). According to research done on 56,741 women from California, people who had an abortion were 160% more likely to need psychiatric care during the first two months after the procedure. Other post abortion concerns include drug abuse, PTSD, and eating disorders (After). Choosing abortion not only destroys the life of a baby, but also destroys the mind of the mother carrying it.

Although it was created to “fix” the apparent problem that having children presents, abortion destroys the lives of the mother and the child. Pro-life exists around the facts that because life begins immediately, outdated rulings must be reversed, and abortion should be made illegal to prevent short sited women from doing something they will regret in the long run. As Mother Theresa examined, what does it say about humanity and morality, all the good things in a human being, if people are killing their own child. Fortunately, it was never our responsibility to give or take away life. Ronald Reagan once said, “I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born” (Ronald). Be thankful that your mother chose to keep you because many babies have not been as lucky.
