In order to solve this problem Barbara should be more integrated in her team and strengthen the sense of team affiliation. This will ultimately help to reduce the power distance and people will actually experience her capabilities. Fostering trust within the team will help to drive the innovation capacity, which will be beneficial in to meet sales targets. Also this will allow Barbara to find a sparring partner within the team with whom she can bounce off ideas. Renewing the reward system is another solution to the problem. In order to get more input employees should be rewarded differently. Fostering intrinsic motivation will be beneficial and also rewarding group-based achievements could be enhance the performance. Finally establishing a culture of feedback paired with high degree of communication and work autonomy throughout all business units will contribute to resolve the problem.
In pursuance of translating those solutions into action Barbara should have informal gatherings with her team and establish a feedback routine during a fixed. A higher travel volume is one action contributing to exchange. Also monthly idea jams and free time to work on own projects is another action. One could initiate cross-branch outings and meetings. The rewards systems should be changed with regards to employees needs so HR should schedule a meeting or distributing questionnaires to learn more about its. Also including non-financial incentives (balanced-score-card) and apply management by mission is an action that fosters teamwork and integration.
